Writing for Range and Versatility

The writer communicates effectively in a variety of formats and genres, for diverse audiences, and for a number of purposes, revealing grade appropriate depth of knowledge.

Mastery is evident when the student:

--draws connections between different areas of knowledge,

--composes for a variety of purposes (to explain, inform, describe, persuade, or narrate) and in a variety of formats and genres,

--uses techniques that require the reader to make inferences about the writer's theme ("show, don't tell," analogies, metaphors, etc.)
